Have you ever tried to identify what species of tadpole you have just captured? Ryan Schroeder caught this gray treefrog tadpole at Lou Campbell State Nature Preserve last Friday and I snapped a quick picture. The diagnostic feature? Its rich red tail.

I haven't seen tadpoles in many years. Used to see them in ditches and small ponds but in those days I wandered around a lot. Even went fishing. I didn't know or wasn't aware of any difference in tadpoles so this was a lesson for me.
Abe- Fishing with the tadpoles? I've never thought of that. How'd they work out? The Peterson Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians, if I'm remembering correctly, has a guide to tadpoles. They're pretty darn interesting to.
